Enabling Rural Enterprises through Hydraform Interlocking Block Technology

Establishment of Stabilized Interlocking Block Making Enterprises in North Eastern States by NERCRMS, Shillong, Meghalaya to create employment, promote micro and alternate building technology enterprises

Client: NERCRMS, Shillong, Meghalaya

Region: North Eastern States of India

NERCRMS, working with local communities and self-help groups, implemented decentralized compressed stabilized interlocking earth block (CSEB) enterprises across the North Eastern States by engaging an authorized Hydraform technology applicator. The initiative created sustainable livelihoods while promoting eco-friendly construction.

Using locally available soil, sand, and cement, the Hydraform Interlocking Block System enabled communities to produce high-quality building blocks locally, reducing dependence on fired clay bricks and lowering transportation costs.

Working alongside the local Hydraform applicator, Hydraform provided technical support, including equipment installation, production commissioning, and hands-on training in machine operation, block production, quality control, maintenance, and interlocking masonry. This capacity-building approach empowered self-help groups and rural entrepreneurs to establish sustainable enterprises.

The initiative demonstrates how Hydraform technology, supported by local implementation and technical expertise, can strengthen rural economies, generate skilled employment, and promote sustainable construction across India’s North Eastern region.
