Challenge

Leh, a remote and high-altitude region in northern India, was severely affected by flash floods that destroyed homes and displaced entire villages. The limited access window due to extreme weather conditions made rapid reconstruction a major challenge.

Solution

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) initiated a village rebuilding program and arranged for Hydraform block-making technology to be transported to the site.

Implementation

Hydraform trainers provided local communities with training to manufacture interlocking blocks using locally available soil and resources. Local people actively participated in producing blocks and rebuilding their homes.

Outcome

Despite difficult terrain and harsh climatic conditions, the project successfully completed and handed over homes before the onset of winter, providing safe and durable shelter for affected families.
